Out of this World – Buddy Merrill [CD]


Buddy Merrill (born Leslie Merrill Behunin; July 16, 1936 – February 3, 2017) was an American guitarist and musician, known for his work as a solo performer and as a member of Lawrence Welk’s musical ensemble.

Merrill was born in Torrey, Utah and began playing the guitar at a young age. He gained national attention in the late 1950s as a regular performer on the Lawrence Welk Show, where he showcased his virtuosic guitar playing and became known for his signature “echo” sound.

Merrill was also a prolific recording artist, releasing dozens of albums over the course of his career. His music spanned a wide range of styles, including pop, jazz, and country, and he was known for his inventive arrangements and use of electronic effects.

In addition to his work with Welk, Merrill also performed with a number of other musicians and bands, including the Beach Boys and the Ventures. He continued to perform and record music throughout his life, and remained a respected and influential figure in the world of guitar music until his death in 2017.
